How to use mediums to layer paints

In this tutorial, we explore how to create transparent layers with Edible Atelier paints using Fast Flow Medium. By adding more medium to your mixture, the paints become thinner and more translucent, allowing you to build soft, glowing layers of colour similar to cellophane or traditional glazing techniques.

You’ll learn how different paint-to-medium ratios affect transparency and how layering colours can create depth, dimension, and subtle colour shifts. For best results, each layer should be fully dry before applying the next — otherwise the colours will blend together instead of sitting transparently on top. Thankfully, drying time is quick, making it easy to work in multiple layers efficiently.
